Speakers and Entertainment

Andy Cope, Happy to speak for Rotary

Andy describes himself as a qualified teacher, author, happiness expert and learning junkie. He has spent the last 10 years studying positive psychology, happiness & flourishing, culminating in a Loughborough University PhD thesis. Andy appreciates that his ‘Dr of Happiness’ label is terribly cheesy but it affords him an important media platform. In times of rising depression and an epidemic of ‘busyness’, Andy believes there has never been a more appropriate time to raise the happiness agenda.

His research feeds into a training course called ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’ which has been delivered to rave reviews all over the world. Andy is lucky enough to work with some very large businesses, including Microsoft, DHL, Pirelli, Pfizer, Hewlett Packard, Astra Zeneca and IKEA. Recently, he has tailored his workshops to meet the needs of children and teachers and now delivers to audiences from age 8 upwards!

Andy is also a best-selling author. He has written ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’, ‘Be Brilliant Everyday’ and ‘The Art of Being a Brilliant Teenager’ (Capstone). He has also penned a series for Crown House, aimed at teachers, and is currently working on two books for Hodder. Andy also moonlights as a children’s author. ‘Spy Dog’ (Puffin) won the Redhouse Children’s Book of the Year and the series has sold in excess of a million copies worldwide. Andy bigs himself up by telling everyone he is world famous, if you’re 7.

Andy was born in the same year that England won the football world cup. He is married to Louise and they have two teenage children as well as an assortment of pets (dogs and pigs mostly). Andy has done numerous TV and radio appearances. He has also set up the hugely successful 2%ers club, the UK’s first, foremost and…err…only society for happy people.

His ambition is to be able to surf, brilliantly!

The Children’s Air Ambulance is a national service, flying critically ill children from one hospital to another for specialist care. It is the first and only dedicated paediatric helicopter emergency transfer service in the country. The bespoke, specialist equipment on board our helicopter provides a flying intensive care unit for children. When a child is too sick to fly, the Children’s Air Ambulance can fly a specialist team to them. With flight times commonly around four times quicker than a transfer by road, in many cases, the time saved means a life saved. Your support will help us to keep hope alive for our little patients and their families.

A hugely respected figure in the world of cricket ,both through his time playing the game and his responsibilities afterwards, it’s hard to argue that there’s a man who knows more about the game than Geoff Miller, OBE. Following his retirement, Geoff has established himself as a highly entertaining after dinner speaker with brilliant comic timing and numerous tales from his time playing. He speaks at a variety of sporting functions and dinners – company hospitality days,  Golf days, charity evenings and rotary events. A former England test stalwart, the first National Selector of the ECB and most recently President of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, throughout his life and career, Geoff has always maintained an active interest in one  of our country’s most loved sports.

We are happy to be welcoming the national speaker for Canine Partners, Malcom Wells MBE. Canine Partners is a registered charity that assists people with disabilities to enjoy a greater independence and quality of life through the provision of specially trained dogs. The Charity is working closely with Help for Heroes, to train dogs for servicemen and women injured on active service, as well as civilians with a range of disabilities such as multiple sclerosis, spinal injuries and cerebral palsy. The dogs are carefully matched to the applicant’s needs and lifestyle, no matter how challenging. They are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons /switches and getting help in an emergency. These life transforming dogs also provide practical, physiological, psychological and social benefits including increased independence and confidence as well as increased motivation and self-esteem. We very much look forward to a demonstration! If you would like your club to receive a presentation on the work of Canine Partners, please contact malcolmw@caninepartners.org.uk. or telephone: 01730 716104.
